Craft/Making/Techtonics

Although this question has been posed several times in class, why do you think that something crafted by hand carries more meaning and importance then something that can be made in mass production by machines?

  1. I believe the reason the hand-crafted goods are revered more because of the connection we have with it being made by another person and not a stationary machine which has no thought process capabilities. I feel that readily made items are easily replaceable in our minds but the hand crafted ones are of more value, due to the amount of time and effort put forth into making it. Anyone one who has made something, whether its a painting, sculpture, or one of the many drawings and models we do in architecture understands the patience and thought that goes into something hand-crafted.

  2. I think something that is hand made carries more meaning because it can never be duplicated. No matter how hard you try, there will be a difference. Anything hand crafted is so unique, it can never be replaced and that in turn give it so much more meaning then anything made by machine.
